Position: Guard
Age: 22
Hometown: Brampton, ON
High School Attended: Bramalea Secondary School
Major: Sport Management
Year of Eligibility: 2
Why did you choose to attend Brock?
I initially chose Brock because of the Sport Management Program that I was interested in. However; another incentive was the fact that the Brock Men's Basketball team had won the CIS Championship in the year just before I would enter my 1st year. As a passionate basketball player, I wanted to play and compete with the best. Odds were against me as a walk-on player, but that didn't stop me from wanting to take a chance.
How long have you played basketball?
I started playing, seriously (competitively) by the beginning of high school (end of grade 8, beginning of 9).
What got you started in basketball?
My mother enrolled me and my brother into various instructional classes at a YMCA, including basketball lessons, swimming lessons, and even Judo lessons. I was in grade 6 or 7 by then and had an interest in basketball since, but got serious about it by high school.
Highlight of your basketball career?
Aside from game statistics, one of the most prominent highlights for me personally is making the Brock Men's basketball team in my 1st year. It meant that I was an official CIS player and most of all it meant that I had accomplished an achievement that I initially felt so nervous and doubtful about.
Who is your role model?
I do not have any particular role model. I have to completely agree with Emily McKay on her profile where she quotes, “Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everybody I’ve ever known.” by Chuck Palaniuk.
Extracurricular Activities: Volleyball is my second favourite sport, so I like to keep up with playing that in intramurals whenever I can and also working on campus refereeing/score keeping intramural games.
Favourite food: Used to be Hawaiian pizza, but now I don't have any in particular.
Favourite movie: Too many favourites, but one for sure is 'He Got Game' starring Ray Allen and Denzel Washington
Favourite book: None in particular.
Favourite Song: Too many favourites in various genres.
Nickname: Mike Will, Ice-man/freeze (credits to Kiel), Smooth, Mikey, Mike(y)-Mike, Twin/twin tower, Best-kept-secret (credits to Mike Cruikshank).
What are your future ambition in both your career and life?
In my career, I want to make it as far as I possibly can playing basketball. Otherwise, I would like to get involved in sport marketing. In life, I just want to enjoy it, laugh, and live it to the fullest, and eventually have wife and kids.
Parents/Siblings and what they do?
Mom works at Sheraton Hotel in downtown Toronto in customer service management. Dad is construction worker/builder. My older sister Michelle (28 y/o) graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton and now lives in Vancouver, BC pursuing a writing career. She is currently one of the editors for a magazine called 'Amoi'. I also have an identical twin brother who attends Laurentian University in Sudbury, ON and also plays basketball for his school's varsity team.
If you could travel any place in the world where would you go and why?
I would like to see Europe (France, Italy, Spain, UK, etc.) because I would like to do some world travel beyond the United States to experience site-seeing and their culture.
