Luc Stevenson-Men's Basketball

Position: Assistant Coach
Age: 21
Hometown: Oakville, ON
High School Attended: Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School
Major: Physical Education
Year: 3
Why did you choose to attend Brock?
I came to Brock because of the concurrent education program, but after a rough first year and a dislike to the education classes I switched into just phys-ed. After first year I decided I wanted to become a coach and therefore staying 5 years would not be necessary.
How long have you played basketball?
I’ve been playing and watching basketball since I was 3 years old.
What got you started in basketball?
I started getting an interest into basketball by going to and watching my older brothers’ high school games at St. Thomas Aquinas in Oakville. They were on a top team in the province at the time and my parents brought me and my younger brother to almost every game. We played at halftime and shot around and were known as the halftime show for the fans.
Highlight of your basketball career?
The highlight of my basketball career would be winning back 2 back Halton Regional Championships with the Holy Trinity Titans, a feat not even my two older brothers had done. They each had their title but I got two. Also beating Oakville Vytis, a rep team that I was cut from in grades 8 and 9 and I had to play in Burlington instead. That was a sweet victory as I was named game mvp in the championship game in our very own tournament.
What do you enjoy about coaching?
I enjoy coaching because it allows me to use my knowledge and skills in basketball in a totally different way. I love the feeling of leading teams to victories and seeing the emotion of the game and its affect on the players I coach. I enjoy seeing success and changes in players. I also like how I can influence youth with the guidance and knowledge I have to offer both on and off the court.
Who is your role model?
My role model is Brad Rootes the men’s basketball coach here at Brock. Ever since I arrived at Brock he has always looked out for me and what’s best for me. He’s a true mentor, teacher and friend and if it wasn’t for him then I would not be in the position that I am in right now and for that I owe a lot to him and our friendship.
Extracurricular Activities: Working Out, Table Tennis, Driving
Favourite food: Chicken Caesar
Favourite movie: The Dark Knight / All Basketball Movies
Favourite book: Life of Pi
Favourite Song: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye

What are your future ambition in both your career and life?
My future life ambition is to get married and have kids and live comfortably and safely, and most of all be happy. My future ambition is to be a NCAA Division 1 basketball coach and to also coach team Canada’s Men’s Senior National Team.
Parents/Siblings and what they do?
My parents own a window and carpet cleaning business called Soften That Spot that I have gladly been able to contribute to and make money with during the summer months. My younger brother Troy is at the University of Waterloo studying chemical engineering coop and also playing on the basketball team there.
If you could travel any place in the world where would you go and why?
Fiji, so I could run into Truman!
